Jonathan Gerstner - Theologian in Reformed History

Pastor Jonathan Gerstner is a seasoned theologian and historian specializing in Reformed Church history and theology. Jonathan N. Gerstner has studied Dutch Reformed covenant theology and the history of Christianity in colonial contexts. His research examines the theological foundations of group identity, particularly among European colonists in South Africa, and his work has been widely recognized in academic and religious circles.

Pastor Gerstner has held various roles in church administration and education, including serving as executive secretary of the synod of Canada for the Reformed Church in America and as president of Yucatan International Academy, where he was involved in efforts to establish a Christian university in Mexico. He has also worked as a hospice chaplain, providing spiritual care to individuals and families. He has served as a visiting professor of theology at the San Pablo Theological Seminary in Mexico since 2019.

He holds a PhD in theology from the University of Chicago Divinity School and additional graduate study in the history of Christianity at the University of Utrecht and the Univesity of Stellenbosch. Jonathan N. Gerstner has written several scholarly works, including The Thousand Generation Covenant, which explores Dutch Reformed theology and colonial identity in South Africa. His work has been featured in conferences and publications, and his forthcoming book, Comments on Romans: The Good News in Depth, is intended as a resource for pastors and church leaders.
